X buffer

does anyone else have problems cutting & pasting between xwpe and other
apps?

I suspect my X installation, not xwpe really, although, I don't have a
problem with other apps.

I'm using xfree on sco instead of sco's server.

symptoms:

can cut & paste normally between xwpe windows within the same instance
of xwpe,
(using the xwpe buffer)

can also cut & paste using the X buffer between different copies of
xwpe, including different versions, including 1.4.2

cannot cut/paste from/into xwpe from/into other x apps using the X
buffer.
not by explicitly using the menu or by using the usual mouse buttons for
copy & paste, including xwpe-1.4.2 and the last 4 versions.

I've tried compiling, linking, running xwpe using the sco X libs as well
as the Xfree libs.

I can highlight text in another x app (say knotes) and verify that it is
ready to be pasted from X into clients, by pasting it...
---- X paste ----
AT-Commands for MultiTech MultiModem MT2834ZDXb - 33.6kbps data/fax
-------------------------------------------------------------------
A/ REPEAT COMMAND
A: CONTINUOUS REDIAL
A ANSWER FORCED
B0 CCITT MODE
B1 BELL MODE
D DIAL
---- X paste ----

and then go to any xwpe window (any running copy, any version including
1.4.2 and 1.5.21a) and try "paste Xbuffer" either by using the menu or
by using the mouse, and it will paste the last thing that I ever "paste
Xbuffer" in any xwpe window by using the menu. It's like there are three
distinct buffers, because the regular xwpe cut-paste buffer works as it
should, seperately from the Xbuffer menu chioces.
1 xwpe buffer
2 what xwpe must think is the X buffer
3 the real X buffer

so, any ideas wher I should look to investigate or how I could debug
this?

compile xwpe and some other app with debugging opts and do something
with gdb?
this is sco not linux, and as far as I can tell, I have no equivalent of
the linux strace, unless gdb or ddd can do it.

It also doesn't seem to matter what, if any compiler optimisation
options I use to make xwpe with.
