GURPS MERP MIDDLE EARTH CAMPAIGN IN GURPS: Writer's Notes: This is a set of quick rules I used to run a GURPS game centered around Northern Mirkwood Forest in Middle Earth. I relied heavily on ICE products, and most of the work I did in preparation for the game was converting MERP rules for GURPS. All of the characters in the game were Elves, so there are only a few racial packages. In the future I hope to expand this work, but for now it may serve as an example (good or bad) for those GM's who wish to run a GURPS game in Middle Earth. Enjoy, DF. SUPPLEMENTS USED: GURPS: GURPS Basic 3rd Edition, Fantasy Folk, GURPS: Magic, GURPS: Grimoire, Unlimited Mana from Pyramid #9 pg. 22-27. ICE: MERP, MERP: Northern Mirkwood, MERP: Treasures of Middle Earth, MERP: Creatures of Middle Earth. CHARACTER VALUE: 150 (Hero level) or 200 (near-epic Level) MAGIC: High, Unlimited Mana (see Pyramid #9 pg. 22-27) Default Threashold: 30 spell points Default Recovery Rate: 8 per 24 hours Option to Spend: a Mage may use 3 points of Fatigue to get one point of Spell Power. Limited High Mana: non-mages must spend 10X normal power cost. Recovery Ritual: Meditate for 1 hour once every 24 hours. Mages can get 1 point per 3 hours since last meditation if they wish to Meditate more frequently. RACE PACKAGES: ELF (101) Advantages: DX+2, IQ+1, Appearance+1, Charisma+1, Immunity to Disease, +2 to Resist Poison, +1 with any missile weapon skills, +1 with Stealth skill, Temperature Tolerance (1 lvl), Dosen't Sleep, Night Vision, Acute Hearing+3, Acute Vision+3, Unaging, Fearless+3, +1 with Bard skill, Rapid Healing. Disadvantages: Enemy:Creatures of Morgoth on a 6, Dying Race. Silvan Elf (104.5) Advantages: ELF Package, +3 w/ Stealth (not +1), +2 w/ Bard, +3 w/ Missile weapons, Musical Ability+2, Most know Riding at 1/2pt and Climbing at 1/2pt. Disadvantages: Sense of Duty to Nature Languages: Sindarin at IQ (for the Mirkwood Elves), Most know Westron at IQ-1 and Quenya at IQ-2 Reactions: -3 to Dwarves, -1 to Men. Height/Weight: compute height and weight normally then add +3" to height (avg. 6'0", 150lbs) Sindar Elf (126.5) Advantages: ELF Package, HT+1, Charisma+2(not+1), +2 w/ Stealth (not +1), +2 w/ Bard, +2 w/ Missile weapons, Unusual Bkgnd(5pt), +2 w/ Shipwright skill, Most know Riding at 1/2pt and Climbing at 1/2pt.
