From: Sarah Warlund "Vampires" were created in the early 1990s. It was a scientific experiment to create invincible soldiers. They were not originally called vampires, but when one of their negative traits proved to be an intolerance to sunlight, one of the researchers made a joke about them being vampires. The names stuck. The changes that were done to the DNA of these creatures (originally humans) created what the vampires called disciplines. Because several different labs were working on different versions of the projects, different disciplines developed. Unfortunately, one of the scientists decided to try the experiment on herself. Lillith, after the restructuring of her DNA, realized the full potential of the so-called vampires. She killed off the remaining members of the research team, with the exception of Caine who was on vacation, and set about developing a mythos to give to her people. Once Lillith had developed a myth, she went to each of the vampires and placed into their memory an artifical history of who and what they were. The first ones released became the methuselahs. But Lillith got tired, so the later one's that she released were not given as much of a history. So were created the neonates. The need for blood is a lie. When the vampires believe that they are drinking blood, they are actually buying a very specific drug from the dealers that Lillith placed on the street. All the vampires were warned against Caine-Lilliths arch-enemy in the research team and the only one who got away. In several of the vampires, Lillith created the belief that Caine must be hunted. The Sabbat are the vampires that Caine has already corrupted. No, Caine is _not_ a vampire.
