Ancillia Wendy Smith, Brujah 11. Wendy Smith was born in London in the late 1960's. A clever, creative child who chafed in her restrictive school and with her unimaginative middle class parents, she was a rebel before she was a teenager. Becoming less and less bothered about school and education, and more and more enamoured of the new punk scene in London in the late 1970's she left home to live in a squat, became a singer in a punk band and a street artist. Smith was Embraced largely by accident by Jonas Black. Black thought that through Smith he could regain some "grass roots" level power, the power he had lost through a lack of contact with the youth movements of the late twentieth century. Smith hated Black, and did everything she could to avoid, annoy and thwart him. Black was known to have cursed her Embrace on many occasions. Her relations with Rocky Johns, the present clan leader are no better. She knows how Johns regards her, and has taken steps to defend herself. Smith is mistrusted by most Elders and clan leaders, but Albrecht is thought to have offered her protection in return for her influence of the punks and goths of London. These groups are quite devoted to her, and some suspect that she has a Blood Cult among them. Smith is short and slim, an archetypal seventies punk: dead-white skin, hair a different colour every night, nose and lip piercings. She is pretty, but aggressive in her dealings with everyone except her human allies, to whom she is devoted. Finn, Brujah 10. Finn, real name unknown, was born in Australia, sometime during the 'forties. He enlisted in the Australian Army during the 'sixties, and eventually rose to the rank of sergeant. Finn served in the Australian SAS, and did two duty tours in Vietnam. During this time, Finn made some contacts within the CIA and Air America. These contacts lead him into the shadowy world of "Black" operations and heroin dealing. Finn became a carrier for these contacts, moving large amounts of heroin out of Laos under cover of covert surveillance. After several such missions, Finn branched out on his own, co-opting a large consignment of heroin before disappearing to the west coast of America with his former employers hot on his heels. During this time, Finn drifted to Los Angeles, and gradually got lower and lower, until he finally became a vampire's food. This vampire, addicted to heroin, fed regularly on Finn, making him first a ghoul, then finally Embracing him. Finn's Sire treated him like dirt, little knowing how dangerous Finn had once been. By a supreme effort of will, Finn began to kick his heroin habit, until the night came when his Sire discovered his actions. Finn's Sire knocked him to the ground. About thirty seconds later, Finn had killed his Sire, decapitating him with his bare hands. Finn left Los Angeles, drifting across the United States, and finally stowing away on a ship bound for London. When Finn arrived in London, he rapidly found work as an enforcer for the former leader of the Brujah, Rocky Johns. Finn slowly developed his own net of contacts in the London drug scene. This allowed Finn to slowly put away enough money to make his big break: in 1989 he open his nightclub: The Alternative London Dungeon. The Dungeon soon became "the" place for the goth and S/M communities to meet. Finn's club has gone from strength to strength since then, making him ever more money and connections. Most people know very little about Finn: he is reticent about his mortal life and his early Unlife. He seldom involves himself in politics, but can be a dangerous enemy: he has the power to call on a great deal of muscle from his drug contacts, and has few scruples about beating or shooting anyone who annoys him himself. Finn is about 5ft 10in tall, with close cropped black hair, deep-set eyes and a powerful physique. His face is marred by a sunken cheekbone on one side: a memento of an AK47 round from a Viet Cong guerilla. His normal style of dress is gothy, with a black leather overcoat, but if he is "taking care of business", he wears camouflage clothing, complete with headscarf and face paint. John Jennings, Gangrel 9. Jennings was born of an English aristocratic mother and an American diplomat father in London during the last war. Jennings grew up in America, attending good schools and gaining an engineering degree before enlisting in the US Army. It was here that Jennings discovered his true vocation in life: flying. Jennings trained as a helicopter pilot, but found that could fly anything at a pinch. He served three Vietnam tours, was highly decorated and wounded several times. Finally, the enemy caught up with Jennings, and his helicopter was shot down in the jungle whilst he was carrying an unusual officer called George Stockwell. Stockwell was a Gangrel, who had fought in all of America's wars since the War of Independence, re-inventing himself as Colonel George Stockwell for each one. A violent first feed on a Viet Cong gun team and a crash-course in earthmelding was the limit of Stockwell's help to Jennings before he disappeared. Jennings survived, faked his own death and funeral, and went home to America, settling in Pittsburg. Once in Pittsburg, Stockwell traced him, and brought the young Kindred into the fold of the clan. Jennings lived on happily in Pittsburg until the Sabbat attacked the city in the early 1980's. Jennings was one of only two survivors, and escaped badly injured after killing several of the Sabbat. Jennings was resettled in London with the help of the Gangrel Justicar. Since then, Jennings has been a growing force in London. As one of Richard Llywellyn's coterie of "Fixers", Jennings has made a name for himself as a Kindred who can get things done. As a result of this, many of London's Kindred owe him boons. Several years ago, Jennings rescued a young woman from the clutches of what he later learned were two Black Spiral Dancers. The young woman, Jayne O'Halloran, was a Silent Strider. Over a year or so, the two became first allies, then friends, and finally lovers. Jennings and O'Halloran spend long periods apart, but their love remains strong. Both are staunch enemies of the Wyrm, and are trying to raise awareness of its threat among the Kindred. Jennings believes that only an alliance of all the Awakened can hope to defeat the Wyrm before it destroys everything. Jennings has taken the first faltering steps on the road to Golconda. He hopes that if he can attain this blessed state, he can achieve his greatest wish: to father a child with O'Halloran. Jennings is tall and thin, with collar length hair and orange eyes. These eyes, along with pointed ears and a mane of hair along his back, are the result of frenzies over the years. He normally wears sun-glasses to cover his eyes, and covers his ears with his hair. He habitually wears flying overalls and a leather jacket. It is rare in the extreme to find him unarmed. Maxwell Curtiss, Gangrel 12. Curtiss was an archeologist. A good archeologist. Or at least as far as his abilities went he was, as Curtiss's moral scruples were always questionable. Curtiss worked all over the world, bringing hidden objects to light. Often he conducted his researches in areas where other teams were working, bribing their diggers to tell him what they were looking for or had found. Curtiss would then move in quickly, dig up the prize and vanish before the enraged researchers could catch him. Curtiss usually sold his finds to private collectors, and made a considerable fortune in so doing. Finally, Curtiss's luck ran out. Digging into an ancient tomb in the Sinai desert, he encountered a seemingly mummified body. Pleased at his find, Curtiss prepare to smuggle it out under cover of darkness. Curtiss found that when night fell, the mummy was a good deal more lively than he had thought. The mummy was an ancient Gangrel, driven into torpor and entombed. As a gift for freeing him from his tomb, the Gangrel Embraced Curtiss, then left him alone. Curtiss slowly figured out the nature of his condition. Then, he returned to London, and discovered he was not alone. Many Kindred found Curtiss's skills useful, and he has altered his lifestyle very little. He still specialises in uncovering things he has no business researching, and sells them to the highest bidder. He is sly and shifty, and delights in playing more powerful Kindred one off another. Curtiss is tall, thin and untidy, with a mop of wiry hair and huge sideburns. He is a shifty-looking character, given to wearing dirty white suits and a fez. His wolf-form looks rather more like a jackal than a timber wolf. J.B. Penelli, Nosferatu 10. Penelli, born John Barrymore MacDougal in Falkirk, Scotland in 1893, Penelli developed his philosophy on life and Unlife early on: if you're going to hell in a bucket, make sure you enjoy the ride. Penelli left his strict Presbyterian parents at the age of thirteen, running away to sea. For the next sixteen years, Penelli plied the oceans in colliers, cattle boats and tramp steamers, involving himself in just about every form of hair-raising or clandestine activity he could. Penelli's greatest break came when the U.S. government imposed Prohibition. Penelli spent two years as a rum-runner, avoiding or outrunning Coast Guard boats to bring his contraband ashore. After this, he turned to moonshining, and soon made a name as "the uncatchable man". But Penelli was caught: a bad-tempered Nosferatu hill-billy, sick of Penelli, who was handsome and vain with it, roaring around his quiet hillsides, Embraced him. The old Nos left Penelli soon afterwards, but not before he had lied to Penelli about everything he could think of regarding Unlife. Penelli learned the truth as he went along, often painfully. After a couple of years, he decided to smuggle himself back to Scotland. Penelli spent six months in Glasgow, after which he left. No-one in Glasgow could stand him, and he couldn't abide them either. Penelli gravitated to London, where he soon launched himself onto a successful smuggling career. Penelli has spent nearly sixty years in London now. He has contacts among the few smugglers not running drugs, and among the police and customs services. Penelli is deeply involved in active Kindred politics, often aiding the Prince. Penelli always makes sure he gets his price from anyone he helps. All of this makes him less than totally popular with the rest of his Clan. Penelli couldn't care less: indeed, his one great hope is to find someone who can rebuild his face, and make him a "pretty boy" again. Penelli, always big, was enlarged by his Embrace, and is now over seven feet tall, weighing in at over 300 pounds. He habitually wears either motorcycle leathers, or tuxedo. His taste in tuxes runs to odd colours: green, yellow, pink, violet and orange. Anyone but Penelli would be laughed out of London for wearing those clothes. The last Toreador who did recovered- eventually. James Tremayne, Toreador 8. Tremayne was described by Richard Llywellyn as "one of the most dangerous Kindred in Europe". Tremayne was born in the Home Counties in the late nineteenth century. Educated at Westminster School, then at Cambridge, Tremayne studied archeology and ancient languages before turning his fertile mind toward science. Tremayne considered that the great ancient civilisations may have been more scientifically advanced than is generally believed, and he dedicated his life to proving his theory. By the twenties, Tremayne had made a name for himself as an archeologist, explorer and author. In 1929, after a trip to Crete to examine the excavations at Knossus, Tremayne travelled to Alexandria. It was here that he contracted a fever of some kind: to this day he has never been able to isolate the organism, but in three days, Tremayne went from vital and healthy to death's door. It was at this point that Karl Schramm, Toreador and archeologist, took a hand, Embracing Tremayne, "so that his light would not leave the world". Tremayne spent his early Unlife in Berlin, and during the last war was part of a small group of Camarilla Kindred on the Eastern Front, where they kept tabs on the Brujah Council and the Tzimices. Tremayne was also involved in the tracking down and killing of the now-infamous Toreador traitor Heinrich Pfalz. After the war, Tremayne came to London, and although at first he seemed to fit in, it soon became apparent that James Tremayne is a Kindred with a mission. Although not a Nazi, Tremayne was impressed by Hitler: a man who had united Germany and lead her to the brink of world domination by the sheer force of his will and personality. Tremayne saw that the Camarilla, riven with internal divisions, would eventually fall simply because there was no-one to lead it. Tremayne realised that he could not to be such a leader, but began to look for an Elder who might: one he could support and promote. He found such a leader in Darcy Villiers. Tremayne has great plans for Villiers. Tremayne is an uninspiring figure physically, of medium height and slim build, with sandy hair and glasses, he appears weak and diffident. This is a clever ploy: beneath this exterior is a razor-sharp mind, and iron will, and a personality totally without scruples where his great plans are concerned. Truly "one of the most dangerous Kindred in Europe". Aurora Toombes, Toreador 8. Aurora Toombes was, during the early nineteenth century, probably what one would call today an "exotic dancer" or something similar. To all intents and purposes, a high class prostitute. Aurora first came to the attention of the Toreador when it was discovered that she was "entertaining" members of the parliament of the time. Then, as now, there were many Ventrue puppets in the Cabinet, and the Toreador were anxious to reduce the Ventrue hold in the government. Some things never change. Aurora was seen as a good way to create a scandal, thus forcing several (it was hoped) politicians from office, to be replaced by Toreador puppets. The Ventrue became aware of the plot, and Aurora, by this time a ghoul of Mary Haughton, was arrested on a trumped-up murder charge, swiftly convicted and sentenced to hang. Haughton would not abandon her ghoul, and by a set of incredible deceptions and ruses managed to get Aurora reprieved, much to the anger of the Ventrue. Gloriana order Haughton to Embrace her ghoul, then Blood Bond her. For these reasons, Aurora Toombes has dedicated her Unlife to the downfall of Clan Ventrue. She likes nothing more than to thwart their schemes, and especially to undermine their human pawns. It has been suggested that the notorious Profumo affair was one of Aurora's tricks. Aurora appears to be in her early thirties, with black hair and dark, hard eyes. She dresses in expensive clothes, wears expensive jewellery and has access to a great deal of money. Indeed, she is one of the biggest "Madams" in London, with dozens of prostitutes under her control. Allegra Banham-Ward, Toreador 9. Allegra Banham-Ward. Allegra was the doyen of early Victorian theatres, as the "Elastic Girl", and also as one of the era's most renowned ballet dancers. At least, until the age of twenty- five. Born to a wealthy family, Allegra trained for ballet in Paris under the greatest teachers of her age. Her stage debut in Paris was greeted with ecstatic reviews from the city's newspapers. Allegra continued, as both ballet dancer and acrobat, until 1861, when an accident cut short her career. Allegra broke her leg, which did not heal well, becoming twisted and leaving her lame and desolate. She took solace in teaching others, and in laudanum, returning to London a broken woman. Allegra continued her downward spiral, ending up on the streets as little more than a prostitute, hopelessly hooked on opium. It was then that Aurora Toombes found Allegra. Recognising the desperate woman before her as the girl who had held all of Paris in her hand, Aurora was shocked. Determined that the skills that Allegra had demonstrated would not be lost, Aurora Embraced her. Months of painful withdrawal from opium followed, in which Allegra, degraded and despairing, begged to be allowed to die a final death. Finally, Allegra recovered. It was only then that Allegra's still-lame leg came to her Sire's notice. Aurora abandoned her Childe, seeing that she could never again dance like she had. Allegra soon launched herself into Toreador society, playing on her mortal contacts to throw parties at which anything went. Allegra has continued like this to the present day. She has become much more astute over time, and now, many an Elder who has done questionable things at one of her parties is tied to her, knowing that she will sell the information if he does not comply to her wishes. Allegra is a beautiful slim looking woman, with long dark hair and hard eyes. She wears the height of Paris fashion, and walks with a stick. Allegra has two secrets: she is addicted to children's blood, and she was responsible for killing Consuela, Arthur Keene's Childe, when he spurned her advances. Samuel Rombini, Toreador 10. Rombini, or as he prefers to be called, "The Great Rombini", led a life of excitement and drama. Born into a circus family early this century, Rombini promised great things as an acrobat, and as he grew, he fulfilled that promise. Growing up to be tall, darkly handsome and blessed with a great physique, tremendous dexterity and lightning reactions, he thrilled the crowds from his early teenage years. Rombini revelled in his life: the thrill of the latest trick, the gasps of the crowd, the praise and envy of his peers, and the girls... Samuel Rombini had a weakness for pretty women. He was always pursued by eager young girls, and was never without at least one beautiful companion. His treatment of these women was less than gentlemanly. He usually took what he wanted from them, then simply abandoned the unfortunate girl in favour of the latest one to catch his eye. Rombini had attracted the attention of Allegra Banham-Ward during one of his first London shows. Each time the circus came back to London, Allegra watched Rombini, her deSire becoming more and more inflamed as she saw that he was the acrobat she should have been. Determined that Rombini's grace and skill should not be lost as hers was, Allegra Embraced Rombini in 1928. Rombini's Embrace increased his speed, and made him stronger and tougher than ever. He found that he could perform ever more complicated tricks, and he needed to do ever more dangerous things to give him the thrills he craved. Rombini is suspected of a number of daring cat burglaries, where secret information or cherished treasures have been stolen from other Kindred, but has never been positively proven guilty. His main protection is that whilst he has generally worked for his Sire and Elizabeth Raphael, Rombini has proven very useful to other Elders, including Margaret Percy and Llywellyn. Rombini has ensured that if he is punished, all of his patrons will be exposed. Rombini is also one of the few Kindred who has attempted to find out more about London's Mages. Rombini looks like a young Burt Lancaster, with darker hair. He generally wears expensive Italian suits, shoes and jewellery, but for his "business" he prefers a figure-hugging black bodysuit. William Peterson, Tremere 10. Peterson is regarded as a "coming man" by the Tremere. Born into a rich family at the end of the last century, Peterson studied medicine, and read on the occult. During the First World war, he served as a field surgeon, earning a reputation of coolness, steadiness and a lack of patience with administrators. Embraced in Vienna just after that war, where Peterson was convalescing after being wounded, he threw himself quickly into the role of a faithful clan member. Returning to London in the twenties, Peterson rapidly became the Regent's right-hand man. Peterson is still in that position to this day: a high position indeed for a young Kindred of the tenth Generation, but a deserved one. Peterson still practices medicine: in addition to his small but highly lucrative private practice in Harley Street he is frequently seen around the down and outs of London, treating their ills. This has a two-fold purpose: it allows him access to much information normally denied to his Clan, and has helped retain his Humanity. Indeed, Peterson will never let anyone die if he can help it: he has come close to trouble many times for using his vitae to heal an otherwise "hopeless case". Peterson is a shortish, stoutish man, with a military moustache, and grey-streaked dark hair. He has a business-like manner and can be downright rude to people he feels are wasting his time. Peterson's greatest fault is his pomposity: he believes that he, his clan and his coterie can fix any problem, and regards offers of outside help with suspicion. Harold FitzGerald, Ventrue 9. FitzGerald is the recognised leader of the small coterie known as "Llywellyn's Fixers" (FitzGerald, Jennings, Penelli and Peterson). FitzGerald was a law graduate and company secretary during the high days of Victorian enterprise. FitzGerald worships two gods: expediency and progress. Both his life and his Unlife have been dedicated to advancing the organisations he works for. Embraced in his early forties, during the First World War, FitzGerald is a tall, smart man, well-spoken and well-groomed. FitzGerald has a gift for seeing through problems to their root cause, and being able to suggest the solution. He is clever, knowledgeable and utterly ruthless in dealing with his or the Camarilla's enemies. FitzGerald is a master of disguise, and a keen student of human nature. Although he has no compunctions over using his formidable Disciplines, he still prefers to use old fashioned cunning to achieve his aims. Fabulously rich, and well-known, although under different names, throughout London, FitzGerald is rumoured to have close connections to the Keenai bloodline in Scotland. FitzGerald can feed only on young, upper class men, and so haunts gentlemen's clubs to feed. Llywellyn is known to favour his advice very highly, and it is a foolish Kindred indeed who makes an enemy of Harold FitzGerald. Ralph Hathaway, Ventrue 12. Ralph Hathaway was born in 1803, the son of a country squire, in Hertfordshire. After an education at Harrow and Oxford, he joined the Royal Artillery, and served for several undistinguished years as a junior officer. Hathaway's army career took him to Africa, where he found his true calling. In the "Scramble for Africa", with every European nation attempting to annex as much territory as possible, Hathaway was one of Britain's great assets. A keen mind, a broad streak of avarice, and a total lack of scruples meant that Hathaway cheated tribe after tribe out of land, property and mining rights, making a vast fortune for himself into the bargain. Hathaway finally decided that parts of what is now Zimbabwe needed his own brand of commercialism, and so he set off to line his pockets there as well. For the first time in his life, Hathaway found that he was seriously challenged: someone was beating him! Stung by his failure, Hathaway applied himself to the problem, locating his rival, an Afrikaner, and attempting to bankrupt him. The rival took this personal attack badly, and would have had him killed, but for one thing: the Afrikaner was the ghoul to a Ventrue, who decided he wanted Hathaway's mind on his side, and Embraced him. Hathaway cheerfully launched himself into the world of Undead wheeling and dealing, becoming not only rich but also very powerful. Finally, his Sire made an attempt on his life (Hathaway having proved uncontrollable through other methods), and Hathaway fled to London, where he soon began to amass another fortune. Hathaway is fabulously rich and well-connected, with a reputation for knowing a great many odd things, presumed to date from his time in Africa. He still looks like a typical Victorian "rough diamond" explorer, dressed in a safari suit and white hat. Hathaway has many vices, all of which he indulges regularly. His feeding restriction is to young women of African origin. Su Li, Caitiff 11. Su Li was born in Singapore of mixed parents (her mother was an RAF officer, her father a local businessman) before moving to London at an early age. After some years in London the family moved back to Singapore. Su Li left school, attended university and became a bank employee. Her steady life did not look like changing at all, until she came home from a nightclub one night much later than she had intended. Grabbed, dragged into an alley, brutally assaulted then Embraced, Su Li's sire abandoned her. She rapidly came to the attention of the local Kindred: out of control and no idea of her nature or powers, she was a threat to the Masquerade. Su Li was captured and brought under control. The first instinct of the Prince was to extinguish her, but a close examination revealed that Su Li had several previously unknown traits. The Prince suspected her Sire to have been an eastern Kindred. Not wishing to antagonise a potentially very powerful enemy, the Prince simply had Su Li deported to London, where Llywellyn agreed to let her stay and watch her, provided she was at least a little educated before she was sent. Su Li has changed markedly since her Embrace: the good little girl is long-gone, and she now revels in the dark power of her form. Su Li owns a nightclub in the west End, her source of revenue, food and information. Many Kindred frequent the Burning Tree, and Su Li is a popular hostess. Su Li is small, dark and pretty. Her eyes are always moving, and seem to hold a kind of cool amusement at the affairs of others, whether mortal or otherwise. Her vampiric powers are not greatly different to anyone else's, but there are distinctly odd things about her. Many people would give a great deal to be able to investigate Su Li more closely. OTHER CHARACTERS IN LONDON Garou Alexander Truefang (Shadow Lord Metis Philodox, Rank 4) Truefang was born about fifty years ago in the Midlands. His father was an Ahroun, killed during the second World War, whilst his mother was a Pack leader's daughter. Truefang was barely accepted, hated by his grandfather and reviled by his peers. But he was tough, and more honourable than any Shadow Lord for generations. This honour often brought him into conflict with other members of the tribe, who cared more for victory than the means by which it was achieved. Finally, aged about thirty, Truefang was banished. He had leaked details of a Shadow Lord ambush to the intended targets, a group of Silver Fangs. Truefang was nearly killed for this, only the actions of the Silver Fangs saving him. As described above, he wandered to London and started the Monitors, later becoming the uneasy ally of the Prince, Llywellyn. Truefang is of medium height, a burly Garou with one eye covered by a patch (his deformity), and covered with interlaced scars. He is a patient, thoughtful Garou who knows the value of planning and preparation. In homid form he is weather-beaten and wears the clothes that a gamekeeper might, whilst as a lupus he is a wolf with silver-streaked fur, and huge shoulders. He speaks softly and is, for a Garou, self-effacing and almost reticent, but his mind is razor keen and he is a tireless foe. Jayne O'Halloran (Silent Strider Homid Theurge, Rank 3) All Jayne O'Halloran ever wanted to be was a journalist. Her change made this rather difficult but she persevered and finally passed a graduate diploma in the subject. After this she worked as a freelancer all over the world, using her Silent Strider talents to get stories that no one else could have. After wandering for about five years she settled in London, initially for a while, but now it is her permanent home. In addition to her ties to John Jennings, O'Halloran acts as a go between to other Garou groups in the rest of Britain and further afield. She wanders all over the world, sometimes on orders from Truefang, sometimes to satisfy her own wanderlust. Hilary Derbyshire (Glass Walker Homid Ragabash, Rank 2) Derbyshire is the only Garou who watches the Kindred from close up. She runs a small computer consultancy, serving stockbrokers and lawyers in the city. This allows her to, occasionally, observe the Kindred at work, and to see that they are not threatening the clean-up of London. Thus far, no one suspects that Derbyshire is a Garou, but it is only time before her own exuberance gives her away. Eamonn Greenpelt (Fianna Metis Ahroun, Rank 2) Greenpelt (he has green hair in all his forms) was abandoned to die, a disgrace to his Tribe. However, Greenpelt was made of sterner stuff, and survived until Truefang found him, a crying baby only a few days old. Truefang raised him as his own son, seeing him grow into a strong youth, then a hulking man. Handsome in a sullen way, Greenpelt acts as Truefang's chief enforcer, a role he relishes. He proved himself a deadly battler by grappling the first Black Spiral he fought, and twisting off the wrym-spawn's head. Mages Gerard Partick Anthony Myers. Myers was a good boy: he went to school, said his prayers and knew exactly what he should and should not do. He told on his friends, telling them that the punishment they got would save their souls. later, he became an altar boy, then a sidesman, before he Awakened. This event was deeply traumatic for Myers. After all, does the Bible not say "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live"? Myers was deeply confused, until he was found by a Chorus mage, who saw in the young fanatic a useful tool. Myers took to the teachings of the Chorus quickly. He saw that he was a servant of the One, God as he saw it, and had been blessed with powers that really could uphold the will of God and smite his enemies. And Myers began to smite. Myers feels that all other Awakened beings are a blasphemy before God, and not only should they be destroyed, they absolutely must be. Myers now stalks London, and no-one is safe: Anarchs or Caitiff, wandering foolishly, lone Mages, Garou or Changelings, even the spirits of the Restless. Myers is of average height, and is basically ordinary-looking, except for his pale blue eyes, which burn with the fire of fanaticism. Embo Munyama. Even as a child, Embo stood out: he could see things that other people could not. His father was displeased with this: as far as he was concerned, Embo should concentrate on school, gain qualifications and then enter a nice steady job in the Civil Service. Embo's mother was less convinced: she had seen something like Embo's apparent condition before, and eventually she persuaded her husband to let Embo spend some time with his grandmother in Nigeria. The culture shock of going from urban to Surrey to rural Nigeria was considerable: it gave Embo's mind the wallop it needed to Awaken him fully. Embo's grandmother was also a Mage, and she took it upon herself to ensure that her grandson was taught not only the right way to perform magick, but also the right way to use that power. Embo's grandmother was a strict teacher, inculcating the young man into the ways of the African Dreamspeakers. In spite of the power he knew was at his fingertips, Embo often wished simply to be a GCE student with no other, bigger, worries than homework and discos. Embo was supposed to have spent six months with his grandmother. This eventually became two years, and when Embo came home, he could not settle back into a life of study and then work. He could not ignore the words of his grandmother: "The power is not for you alone. It is given to you to keep safe, and to use for the benefit of all people around you." Embo abandoned his university degree to become a voluntary worker. That was fifteen years ago, and Embo is still doing voluntary work around the homeless of London. He has supplemented his magick with other, more conventional skills, and ministers to the medical and pastoral needs of all those unfortunates who have fallen through society's now badly-torn safety net. Embo is a tall man in his middle thirties, of African descent. He has a grave, careworn face, and his clothes are usually dirty from his trips into the darker side of London. The Celestial Chorus know of him, and are anxious to remove him from the streets. Embo however has been far too wily for the Chorus thus far. Embo also has powerful friends: several members of Clan Nosferatu know him and are on good terms with him. They watch Embo's back at times when he cannot. Wraiths Richard Plantagenet, or Richard the Third, is probably England's most vilified king. He was also an expert soldier, a gifted politician and a master of expediency. His reputation, although not entirely undeserved, has been worsened by Shakespeare's hatchet job. When Richard fell at Bosworth Field, he did not pass on to any of the various afterlives he had envisaged. Instead, his ghost drifted back to London, where most of his roots and connections (as he then thought of his fetters) were. It wasn't long before Richard was co-opted into the legions of the Hierarchy. Richard's innate intelligence and acumen meant that he rose rapidly, and now, several hundred years later, he holds the title of Governor-General of the London Necropolis. In effect, while the Regent plays at politics with the Deathlords, Richard rules the city. In life, Richard knew the value of both mercy and a violent "object lesson". He ruled England uneasily, and had always had to make alliances where he could, playing rivals off one against the other to maintain his own position. Richard found that politics among the Restless is little different. By this sort of jockeying, Richard has maintained the Hierarchy's position, and kept the Renegades in check largely without force. Now things are changing. The Regent, who uses the Necropolis's resources in her foreign affairs, leaves Richard with fewer and fewer assets. He is being forced to use direct action to maintain order, against his better judgement. Richard does not deSire an all-out war with the renegades. Indeed, he is not without sympathy for many of their grievances, especially those that have arisen since Charon disappeared. Richard begins to wonder whether London needs a new Regent... Richard still has the handsome aspect of his life, somewhat ruined by a huge livid cut to his face. He is strong-looking, upright and regal. Although he can be distant and aloof, he really enjoys friendly contact, and is a master of diplomacy and etiquette. The only Wraiths for whom he has little time are the Heretics, whom he believes are putting all the Restless at risk in the name of their own desires. Antoinette Bathgate. Antoinette was a professional protester. Whether it was Save the Whale or Women's Rights or No New Road Here, Antoinette would be there, waving her banner, taking the stand to speak and calling on whoever she thought would listen to "take action now". Truthfully, she didn't achieve much, but her commitment was genuine, and huge. When Antoinette was run over by a drunken driver, the eulogies came in thick and fast. Antoinette awoke to find herself in the Shadowlands, barely able to affect the living world at all. She was horrified by what she found in the Shadowlands: the repression of the Hierarchy, the slave trade, the forging of souls to create oboli. Antoinette realised her career as a protester had not been stopped by anything as simple as death. Antoinette joined the Renegades, and quickly grew in prestige and power. She became a more and more vociferous voice against the Hierarchy. She organised protests, very public protests, and made sure she was seen to be protesting. The Hierarchy first thought about making her disappear, but waited, biding its time to see if she might simply go away of her own accord if left alone. There was no chance of that. Antoinette took the Hierarchy's lack of action for a lack of courage, and protested even more loudly. The Hierarchy ground its collective teeth in frustration. In the time that they had allowed her to have, Antoinette had become so popular a figure that her disappearance could well trigger off a civil war. Antoinette is still protesting, but she has a problem: although the Hierarchy cannot attack her directly, she is closely watched at all times, and it is difficult for her to do anything direct in support of her causes. She is forced to take a great deal of her action through others, remaining visibly separate from the more violent actions of the renegades. Antoinette looks around twenty-five, shortish, plump, with dark hair and a magnetic personality. Changelings Ossian NaRoth. Even more than most Changelings, Ossian is a an exile. Ossian was a minor noble of House Eiluned, an UnSeelie knight. Then, he fell foul of his kith. He will not speak of why he was banished, but some others speak of a lost love for a woman he could never have, and that had Ossian and the woman ever been joined in wedlock, then the consequences would have been terrible. Both Seelie and UnSeelie banished him. Ossian was driven from his holdings with only what he could carry. Embittered, he made his way to London. It was here, among the Irish community in Kilburn, that Ossian found a spark of the Balefire. Guttering low in the cellar of a bar where no Changeling had gone in decades, it had all but died. At Ossian's arrival, it burst into new life. Ossian has turned the Dun Cow into one of London's premier Freeholds. With the help of a Boggan and a Troll, the bar runs smoothly. Ossian stands behind the highly -polished brass bar and dispenses beer and cynicism in roughly equal proportions. Ossian truly is as cold and cynical as he appears, but he is still a member of House Eiluned: a good story, a mystery or simply something unusual will drag him from his bar to investigate, and those who have managed to find him in his Seelie legacy speak of his humility, gentle bravery and steadfastness. Ossian's mortal Seeming is that of a man in his late teens, with long red hair, and a handsome, if sullen face. In Sidhe Seeming, he is even more handsome, and still affects the dress of a Sidhe noble. He makes an elaborate point of saying he does not care how people address him, but if one calls him "Sir Ossian", he is more disposed to help. Others Watch this space!
