GURPS: TREK - THE UNAUTHORIZED SOURCEBOOK SECOND EDITION - SECOND PRINTING --------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- SECTION FIVE A - ALIENS - PART ONE --------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------- These sections contain info on PC's and NPC's for use in a Trek campaign. It includes two of the more famous characters from the shows. As in the Races sections, each description is in three parts: Racial Abilities, optional characteristics, and a description. The racial attributes should be considered as common to all members of the race. Other characteristics are those that are common to the race, but could be changed or altered due to circumstances. This, however, is -not- true for Trek characters. They are presented as an option for the GM as PC's or NPC's. Inclusion of Data and Odo should not be considered as an infringement upon any copyrights and/or trademarks on those characters held by Paramount Pictures, Inc. My thanks go to Richard Keehn, who put most of the work into designing the stats for some of the new races in these sections. Richard may be contacted at: rkeehn@ets.org. Thanks must also go to Gert Sonderby for the new inclusion of the Jem'Hadar. There are several places in this work where the descriptions are a little sketchy due to the fact that not very much information is available on that race. Anyone wishing to add information to those sections is welcome to write me. Any comments about this section should be sent to: tmp_harkins@dirac.physics.jmu.edu "Mr. B." GURPS: Trek - Section Five A - Aliens - Part One - is Copyright (c) May 1996. See GURPS: Trek - Section One B - General - Part Two - Overview for more information. --------------------------------------------------------------- Table of Contents: ------------------ Odo (and the Changelings) Cmdr. They can appear as virtually anything they wish. They must return to their natural form, a gel-like liquid, once every 16 hours. Without this rest, they will find it increasingly harder to maintain the morphed shape. They only need to stay in this "natural" form for one hour. Their Mimicry abilities give them an uncanny ability to duplicate virtually anyone (or anything) they have ever seen. They can change form, shape, size, and color at will, and can do so in just a few seconds. Combine the above with their Body of Plasm, and they are a very effective double agent, among other things. You would have to know the victim of a Changeling switch -very- well in order to detect their impersonation at all. The races of the Alpha Quadrant have recently discovered that pieces removed from a Changeling's body will revert to their natural gel-like form. Blood tests are now standard protocol throughout the Federation and Klingon Empire to weed out Changeling infiltrators. Members of this race can stretch their bodies even while maintaining a regular form. They do not need to eat or drink, at least not in any known manner, and their need of sleep is quite different from normal humanoids. They do not even need to breathe, but their bodies cannot survive in the vacuum of space without a suit of some type. NOTE: To use these stats for other Changelings, change the "Honesty" disadvantage to: "Intolerance: Non-Changelings", and the "Sense of Duty: Starfleet" to "Sense of Duty: Changelings". Changelings have a fanatical hatred of "solids" and have attempted to infiltrate militaries and governments of several Alpha Quadrant races, including the Federation. It is not known how far this process has gone. Other adjustments to the Changeling template are at the GM's discretion. =============================================================== CMDR. So far, there have been only four of the "Soong" type androids known to exist: Data, Lore, Lal, and Dr. Juliana Tainer, an android copy of Dr. Soong's (ex-)wife. Dr. Tainer does not know that she is an android. Data (and a few of the crew) are allowing this deception to continue. Both Lore and Lal are no longer functional. Data's construction is so unique, even by Starfleet standards, that he has been granted full legal rights as a living being in his own right. Data has a positronic brain of the type first suggested by Dr. Isaac Asimov of Terra. This brain is capable of having a completely eidetic memory. It also confers the advantages of: language talent, mathematical ability, and lightning calculator, among others. He has managed to learn quite a bit since his activation, and possesses the advantage of Common Sense to indicate that. It is currently unknown what skills Data has in total, but he has been the Conn officer for the USS Enterprise for the last seven years, and served in Starfleet for quite a long time before that. Data's android body gives him many advantages over Humans. He has an extreme sense of touch, combined with a very high manual dexterity. He is immune to all forms of disease and poisons, and is capable of hearing sounds at both ends of the scale at higher and lower ranges than humans. He also, through his body structure, which is composed of complex polymers and metals, has a higher DR and very high ST, along with extra hit points. This may make him very hard to kill, but he does not have that advantage. He is capable of existing in a vacuum and under increased atmospheric pressures. He has polarized eyes, and is not affected by sudden changes in light levels. He also has Night Vision. He is not known to age at all. His body is capable of operating normally at both higher and lower temperatures than normal. He has no need to eat or drink, but is capable of doing so. He does need to consume a small amount of a special liquid to replenish his supply of lubricants. He has no need of sleep, per se, but does deactivate himself occasionally to rest and experience dreaming. He has an unusually High Pain Threshold, and recovers quickly due to his built in self-repairing systems. He is capable of running and acting at speeds normally unattainable by humans. He has a built in Interface Jack for downloading and uploading information directly from computers. There are still a few prejudices in the Federation. This is best indicated, in Data's case, as "Social Stigma: Machine." To make matters worse, Data is not capable of understanding humor of any kind. This is best represented by the "No Sense of Humor" disadvantage. This makes Data a very hard individual to get to know, but once known, Data rewards that person with a friendship that is very long lasting. Note: For those who wish to use them, these stats could be modified somewhat in order to create "Lore", Data's 'twin'. To do this, it is recommended that you remove (at least): No Sense of Humor Pacifism: Cannot Harm Humans and replace them with (at least): Bully Meglamania Of course, these are only suggestions. Note: as of ST:GEN, Data has "bought off" at least the "No Sense of Humor" and "OPH: Emotionless" disadvantages with character points earned during more than seven years of adventuring with the crew of the Enterprise-D. =============================================================== GORN (+136 points) ------------------ Attributes: ----------- ST: +6 (+80) IQ: -1 (-10) HT: +2 (+20) Advantages: ----------- Claws - One level (+2 damage) (+15) Damage Resistance - Two levels (+2 DR) (+6) Extra Hit Points - Two levels (+2 HP) (+10) High Pain Threshold (+10) Longevity (+5) Nictating Membranes - One level (+10) Peripheral Vision (+15) Recovery (+10) Sharp Teeth (+5) Temperature Tolerance: Heat only - 1 level (+10) Disadvantages: -------------- Appearance: Ugly (-10) Bloodlust (-10) Bad Temper (-10) Odious Racial Habit: Eats Other Sentients (-10) Stuttering (-10) (only on alien languages) Quirks: ------- (no racial) Required Skills: ---------------- Area Knowledge: (Homeworld) at IQ (0) Language: Gorn at IQ (0) DESCRIPTION: ------------ Gorn are a saurian-based humanoid race that appear to be evolved from some type of reptile (or possibly dinosaur). Gorn are much larger than humans, and have quite a bit more muscle mass in their bodies. They are more comfortable in slightly lighter gravity than Terran norm. Their eyes have a faceted covering. Gorn are not picky about what (or who!) they eat, and they prefer their food live, although they will eat it raw if live food is -absolutely- unavailable. Most Gorn have a bad (and quick) temper, and can go Berserk if enraged. All Gorn are enticed by the smell of blood, and will fight even harder if they 'smell' a kill coming. Gorn physiology is not very well suited to speaking other languages. The Gorn tongue is forked, like a snake's, and all "s" sounds will have a hissing property. Gorn have the sharp teeth and claws of their ancestors. Their body is very resilient, and they heal quickly. Their scales give them a form of mild armor plating naturally. Gorn have high strength. They prefer a much warmer climate than Terrans. Gorn eyes are placed on either side of their head, and gives them excellent peripheral vision, although their field of vision to the front is not limited. Gorn are extremely long-lived, and have a higher resistance to pain than most humanoids. Gorn will not usually give or receive "quarter" in a battle - they will generally fight to the finish - theirs or their enemies. Gorn are very territorial, but do not appear to be interested in further expansionism - yet. Gorn are not part of the Federation, nor do they wish to be. =============================================================== Jem'Hadar (74 points) --------------------- Attributes: ----------- ST: +2 (+20) DX: +1 (+10) IQ: -1 (-10) HT: +1 (+10) Advantages: ----------- Damage Resistance - Two Levels (+2 DR) (+10) Early Maturation - Five Levels (+50) Enhanced Running - One Level (+10) Invisibility - Switchable (+44) Regeneration (+25) Disadvantages: -------------- Dependancy: Infrequent, monthly, irreplaceable (-20) Short Lifespan - Two Levels (-50) Reputation -3, everyone, all the time (-15) Odious Racial Habit: Warlike and Arrogant (-15) Quirks: ------- (no racial) Racial Skills: -------------- Area Knowledge: Dominion at IQ (0) Beam Weapon: Disruptor at DX (+1) Language: Jem'Hadar at IQ (0) Karate at DX (+4) DESCRIPTION: ------------ The Jem'Hadar were created by the Founders of the Dominion, the Changelings. Their role is that of the shock troops and scourge of the Dominion. Usually, if a Dominion world violates the rules set up for it, the result is a visit by the Jem'Hadar. What ensues is devastation, massacre and other perils. They have an uncanny ability to turn invisible to the naked eye at will, but can be seen by instruments that pick up other ranges of lightwaves. They age to maturity in just above three months, and live for about 35 to 40 years. They are the best close quarters fighters in the Gamma Quadrant, and rival the Klingons for their position in the Alpha Quadrant. They are feared everywhere they are known in both the Alpha and Gamma Quadrants. The Changelings keep them in line by providing a white dust, a severly addictive drug with unknown properties to them at regular intervals. Disobediance by any Jem'Hadar results in the withdrawal of the drug with severe withdrawal symptoms and often death as a result. ===============================================================
