The Goblin Wars A Short History by Ganrian (Excerpted from Ganrian's Workbook) Althair 2, 598 Word has come today concerning the goblin raids on the kingdom. King Ganthes has officially started a campaign against the insidious creatures and is on his way to the Northern Lands, where I am being summoned as well, to meet with his warlords and set up the campaign. With hope, and Kasman, we shall surely gain victory over the creatures. I am bringing a few of my control rings, perhaps if we gained control of some of the monsters we could find out with precision where the camps are located and even learn what nasty tricks they have set up to deter visitors. Ganthes will surely recognize my worth as an advisor then. Althair 21, 598 Meetings with the king continues and he does not approve of my control rings. Doesn't he see the merits of them? He is too blinded with bloodlust to do this the right way. Maybe I'll just show him. Though, I don't know how I'd do that... Word is spreading that we begin attacks in a huge sweeping attack all over the mountains. This is typical of Ganthes by now. Can't do anything small-scale. No. He has to do it in a way people will regal him if it works. IF it works. I am to be a part of his personal Dragoon Elite. I'll serve in using massive offensive spells, such a waste of my talent, but he doesn't understand... Sarthem 1, 598 The offence has begun, but to my knowledge no one has seen any of the goblins in weeks. Maybe they finally decided to leave the Kingdom alone. Of course I would too if I saw an immense army readying itself to go in and annihilate me. Sarthem 20, 598 My group first encountered the goblins today. They seemed so weak and helpless against our attacks, though they outnumbered us two to one. With a few well-placed spells, they fell easily to our crushing attacks. Such business is menial in comparison to my real worth. Ganthes has sent word about the construction of the Dragoon keeps, which has begun all along the border of the mountains. In his message, he inquires about our progress. Rayven 14, 598 The conquests have been relatively just like the first encounter. It is amazing the goblins gave us so much trouble before. And why wasn't it taken care of earlier? Last night, we caught some goblins in camp. They stole some food, and I noticed several of my rings missing. I'm not sure they took them, but I could have just dropped them somewhere. Regardless, it wouldn't be very good if they manage to get their grubby hands on them. Rayven 17, 598 We encountered members of a race of bird-men today. I've never seen any before, but tales of the aaracockra are not unheard of in history. They claimed we were tresspassing on their territory and that in payment for such an offense, we would be forced to give an astronomical amount of worth to them, perhaps the worth of the king's treasury. When we blattantly refused, they attacked in large numbers and would have done some significant damage to us had I not put the greater number of them to sleep, while I charmed the rest. Its been a long time since I've had an excuse to make use of my weaker spells. Rayven 30, 598 The decree has come that the last goblin has been killed today. My contingent hasn't seen a foe for two weeks, but we've wandered through the mountains regardless, not wanting to go against the edicts of the king. Now, I can finally return home and return to more important matters. Hopefully the king won't find the need to wage war on another creature. I could really get used to the life of study so many of my friends live these days. I'm getting too old for this.
