CHANNELER by Jeffery Daviss Any character wishing to be a channeller gets some new ability scores. For each school of mage, roll 3d6, like any other ability score. The channeller has the inate potential to cast spells of a level equal to his score divide by two, rounded down (a channeler with a score of 13 in necromancy is naturally able to cast level 6 spells and lower). The channeller gains one point to one school's ability score every two levels. The channeller decides which school to put it in. A channeller may expend a number of spell points equal to the channeller's constitution divided by two (rounded down) in a round. More on spell points next paragraph. Channelling magic requires spell points. The channeller gains one point per spell per spell level that a standard mage would get (a third level mage gets 2 1 so the channeler would get (2*1)+(1*2)=4 spell points). Channellers are limited as mages with respect to intelligence and spell level castable. To cast a spell, a channeller must have high enough intelligence and a high enough ability score in the spell's school to cast the spell. Channellers may remember a number of spells equal to the number of spells a mage may keep in a spell book. If a new spell is to be remembered, the channeller must lose an old one. Channellers require only verbal and somatic components to cast spells unless the spell specifically requires a component (enchant an item). The channeller must be able to see the target, except in the case of divination magic. Channellers may not use magic user scrolls as the magic is not compatible. All other magic items usable by mages are usable by channellers, however. Advanced Spell Casting If a channeller has sufficient constitution, he (she) may have spell points left over from a spell casting. If this is the case, the channeller may a second spell simultaneously AS LONG AS THE SECOND SPELL IS THE SAME AS THE FIRST SPELL. For example, a channeller with a 12 constitution has 6 points that she can expend in a round. She chooses to cast a fireball and she will have three points left over. She can cast a second fireball if she so wishes. If a channeller has high enough intelligence and high enough inate ability to cast a spell but is low on constitution, the spell may be cast, at a risk to the channeller. Multiply the spell's level by two and subtract the constitution score. Apply this difference as a penalty to the channeller's constitution and roll a system shock. If the check fails, the channeller dies.
