Dungeon World News through the ages: (As recorded in Zax Kar Nissex's Journal of Dungeon World) Socturn 17...1010 After many years of disputes with the giants of the Free Cities, the Draconians have declared war against the primitives. Emperor Dracos has begun rounding up an army, to add on to his already teeming militia, to wipe out the troublesome race. King Gantor of the Dwarves in Stronghome, who is on friendly terms with Dracos, has refused to take part in the war, save for providing arms and other war materials. The giants, though aware of the growing numbers of hated people below, seem to be taking little notice and are making no preparations against the invasion. Pithor 2...1016 Scientists in the magic guild have uncovered a new possibility for transporting the fragile glow moss that civilization so requires. It is a hybrid breed of moss, however, it proves to be extremely short lived and somewhat toxic if ingested in even the smallest amounts. This is the first major breakthrough in developing some sort of portable light. It is also one of the few things that everyone is in common need for. Espionage on the projects have been commonplace in the past and the Mixed cities are expected to be sabotaged soon, if not already. Buth 12...1024 An alliance marriage occurred between the step-niece of Emperor Dracos and a local mercenary unit located within his cities. The marriage served to reinforce the loyalty the Gransen's Incinerators had provided in years past. They are currently assigned to the front line attack force against the Free Cities. The unit is boastful but not eager to engage in battle with the giants. Buth 14...1024 After only two days fighting on the front line against the giants of the Free Cities, Emperor Dracos was forced to make an announcement on behalf of the recently killed commander of Gransen's Incinerators, Halek Tibor. The unit has disbanded and withdrawn from the futile wars between the Draconian Empire and the neighbors above. It is expected that the loss of this major faction of Dracos' army will deal repercussions no one could begin to comprehend. Socturn 10... 1032 The goblin cities have decided to take on the offensive against the dwarves of Stronghome. The first waves of the attack have proved fruitless however, and they are not expected to be able to keep up this venture for very long. It is expected that King Gantor will mount a retaliative attack against the annoying goblinoids and is already pooling some of his reserves into a new form of training. Socturn 41... 1032 The last of the goblin attacks have occurred today, the goblin generals have finally pulled out the remaining of their forces. Remarkably, King Gantor has not set up his counter attack, and more remarkably, though losing public opinion through this action, he has disbanded a large portion of the defensive army, mostly from the reserves he was training of late. Epithos 92...1046 Emperor Dracos has finally declared a cease attack upon the Free Cities after a thirty-six year war which has claimed the lives of over two million of his army. Though the Free Cities had many losses, this fact prevailed little over the discouraged hearts of the Draconians. Though the giants did not seem to be prepared for war, they fought with skill, and had laid many well planned ambushes. Within the first year, it was clear that the Draconian empire was going to fail at its task. Surprisingly, there has been no counter-attack made by the insidious giants. Dacko 14...1048 An old, frail King Gantor was declared dead on this day. The dwarves were closed up for the next four weeks while they performed funerary rites for the exemplified king. The gates to the city reopened with a new king declared. Ferir 26...1048 A new dwarf is declared king of the dwarves of Stronghome today. After four weeks of shutting themselves off from the rest of civilization, the dwarves declared the twentieth ruler in the Bloodspear succession, King Thorak III. He promises to be a memorable king to his people, and as demonstration, he has declared that the Goblin Cities and all of their kind shall be annihilated. He has mounted an all out assault on the goblinoids and boasts he will not stop until their ultimate demise is reached. Rann 27...1049 After almost an entire year of fierce fighting on the part of the dwarves of Stronghome, King Thorak III has decided to lay off his war effort for a while; the attacks didn't prove to be as fun as he had pictured them to be. Although the losses on the side of the goblinoids were high, the dwarves end suffered little. Epithos 12... 1055 Suddenly, and without provocation, the Imperium of Salt has expanded its borders into the territory of the Goblin Cities. The sudden attacks mounted on the goblinoids were well planned and extremely effective, leaving the goblins with little choice but to surrender very early on. Most of the population has been enslaved by the drow and only a select few were allowed to escape to retell the horror stories of what had transpired. The dwarves of Stronghome are preparing themselves for an imminent attack by the drow within the year, even though there is evidence to prove that the Imperium is happy with its new borders and plan to stay and build up a more established boundary. Despite this fact, King Thorak III has increased the war budget by several thousand gold in order to accommodate the extra militia he has hired. Rann 2... 1100 A sudden revelation made by the Dwarves of Stronghome has revealed their beloved king to be a traitor to his people. The High Priest of Grantis, Lord of Justice, instituted a swift judgment, and with the sorrowful deed slew King Thorak III by a single stroke of his two-handed sword. The death of the king has left Stronghome and its people in a state of confusion. No one is sure who will succeed the traitor, but until a decision is made, all fourteen portculli linking the dwarves with the rest of civilization have been closed for the general protection of the inhabitants.
