Magic of Arkayris by Dennis Payne [Author's Note: Arkayris has a magic point system for spell casting. The rules will be forthcoming.] Second Sight Mages have the ability to see the intensities of magical energies. The wizard must concentrate to maintain this sight and cannot perform complex tasks while doing so. The ability falls between Detect Magic and Identify for information given on magical items. Paladins, rangers, bards, and most priests do not have this ability. Instead they may cast Second Sight to gain this ability for a time. The spells Detect Magic and Identify do not exist. Reading Magic Read Magic does not exist instead magic is written in the language, Taylarian. All mages start with speak, read and write in Taylarian. Wild Mages Do not exist on Arkayris. Time Magic Chronomancy is more carefully guarded on Arkayris than other worlds. The following spells are not available to players: Level One Lasting Breath Level Three Alacrity Alternate Reality Level Four Extension I Plant Growth Level Five Extension II Level Six Extension III Level Nine Foresight Temporal Stasis Time Stop Also the priest sphere of time is unknown on Arkayris. Other Lost Spells The following spells are not found on Arkayris: Level Four Stoneskin (see new spell) New Mage Spells Second Sight (Divination) Level: 1 Range: 0 Components: V, S Duration: 2 rounds/level Casting Time: 1 Area of Effect: Caster Saving Throw: None Imbues the caster with the second sight ability of wizards. Stoneskin (Alteration) Level: 6 Range: 0 Components: V Duration: 1 round/level Casting Time: 1 Area of Effect: Caster Saving Throw: None When this spell is cast, the caster's skin turns to stone. The character becomes immune to slashing and piercing weapons. Bludgeoning weapons cause only half damage. All magic attacks do normal damage and the caster is susceptible to stone affecting spells which cause 1d8 damage per level of the spell to the caster. In addition to the protection, the wizard's strength increases by 1d10 to a maximum of 20. The stone skin increases the caster size slightly causing seems on clothes to rip. The clothes still cover most of the body but should the character enter a town or city his appearance may cause him to be mistaken as a beggar. New Priest Spells Second Sight (Divination) Level: 1 Sphere: Divination Range: 0 Components: V, S Duration: 2 rounds/level Casting Time: 1 Area of Effect: Caster Saving Throw: None Imbues the caster with the second sight ability of wizards.
